Paul J. Tomko, Sr., age 77, of Bethel, CT died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Sandra Bell Tomko.

He was born in New York City, November 7, 1938, son of the late Paul J. Tomko and Jean Moncsko Tomko Mandry.  Paul attended Danbury Teachers College and received a degree in engineering.  His early career was spent in the aeronautics industry at Barnes Engineering, working on the Mercury space program.  Paul left that industry and launched his own business, United Marine Boat Yard, in which he was active until his death.  Paul had a love for life, socializing with family and friends, and flying his own plane.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Michael Tomko and his wife Karen of W. Redding, CT, his stepdaughter Leigh DiLeonardo and her husband John of Milford, CT and his daughter-in-law Phyllis Tomko and her daughter Amanda.  Paul is also survived by his sisters Linda Carroll and her husband William of Wilton, CT and Joanne Mandry and her husband Don Ramesdorfer of Wyckoff, NJ.  In addition he is survived by his seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christopher, Rachel and Mitchell Tomko and Keaghan, Samantha and Jonas DiLeonardo.  He is predeceased by his son Paul J. Tomko, Jr. in 2015.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to your favorite charity.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 26 Dodgingtown Rd., Bethel, Monday morning at 11:00. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel will be private.
