Augusta F. Mitchell (previously Simmons), 79, of Newtown, CT passed away on Friday, October 28 after a prolonged battle with Multiple Myeloma.

On Monday, November 7, the family will accept visitors from 12pm-12:45pm with the memorial services to follow from 1pm-2pm at Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street, Danbury, CT 06810. The Rev. Frederick Schraplau of St. Paul’s Episcopal church in Staten Island will officiate.

Born the youngest of six, in Staten Island on August, 24, 1937, Mrs. Mitchell graduated from Curtis High School, went on receive her Bachelor’s Degree from Hunter College and Master’s in Education from The College of Staten Island (CUNY).  In Staten Island, Mrs. Mitchell began her career in Special Education, first teaching at P.S. 57 then P.S. 29 where she became Assistant Principal and as Principal shepherded her students and staff through the life altering events of 9/11 before retiring in 2002.  As a parishioner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, she was a member of the choir and maintained a long term connection with the parish through her family.

Mrs. Mitchell married Claude A. Mitchell on April, 28, 1963.  They were lifelong residents of Staten Island and moved to Newtown, CT in 2014 to be closer to their grandchildren.  She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Claude A. Mitchell; three sons, Claude, Thomas and David; daughters-in-law, Jami and Lisa; and three beloved grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jackson and Colin.
