Thomas Sanford Obituary

Thomas Paul Sanford, 67, passed away on December 27th, 2020 after a courageous 2 year battle with brain cancer in his home, surrounded by family.

Tom Sanford was born October 2nd, 1953, the son of Seth Sanford and Helen (Gemza) Sanford. He was a lifelong resident of Danbury. He leaves his wife of 33 years Evelyn (Thomas) Sanford; his sons Thomas James (TJ) Sanford and Tyler Seth Sanford; his mother Helen (Gemza) Sanford; his sister Elizabeth (Betsy) Malone; and many nieces and nephews.

He attended Beaver Brook School, Great Plain School, Danbury Junior High School, Danbury High School class of '71, and graduated from Western Connecticut State College with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics.

Tom's first job was at Jimmie's Market in Germantown. He was owner and operator of Pocono Marina Canvas Shop where he made custom boat covers, many of which can still be seen on Candlewood Lake. Tom spent his winters working at Ski Haus where he was well known for his ability to custom fit ski boots. He installed and maintained pay phones and ATMs with his cousin Joe Sauer. He spent the last decade working at Candlewood East Marina where he retired at 65.

Tom grew up on Candlewood Lake where he was an avid water skier and sailor. His greatest passion was snow skiing. Tom made numerous trips out West but did the majority of his skiing in New England, even after having both of his hips replaced twice. Tom enjoyed playing Cribbage with family and friends whenever he could.

Tom was always willing to help others and asked nothing in return. He always had a positive influence on people around him. Tom will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Due to the current pandemic, there are no calling hours or public services. There will be a private Mass of Christian Burial.
