Tessie S. (Snopkowski) Miklaszewski

Tessie Miklazewski passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, leaving behind the memories of a full life that was well lived. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1917, she was 1 of 12 children and the last surviving Snopkowski child. Tessie was married to the love of her life, Zigmond Miklaszewski, for nearly 60 years and made sure he had his lucky dinner of spaghetti and meatballs before his bowling league games every Monday.  

Tessie spent much of her 103 years sewing, cooking and hosting holidays for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She had dreams of hitting it big at church bingo or the casino and even made a trip to Las Vegas to try her luck at the slots. She met Mickey Mouse and Richard Nixon at Disney world, saw the sun set in Hawaii and 92 years old, and fell out of an apple tree at 95. 

Tessie's love of family showed all over her home through the hundreds of photos she proudly displayed. Each child, grand child and great grandchild's life moments were captured and saved and she showed them off to visitors. She looked forward to visits from distant relatives and would sit around the kitchen table for hours telling stories while drinking boiling hot tea with lots of lemon. 

Tessie was proud of her Polish heritage and would tell stories of her mother's journey to America. Tessie even assisted in translating for Polish immigrants at the Children's Hospital and at Sacred Heart church where she was a lifelong parishioner.

Nothing brought Tessie more joy than seeing the babies in her extended family grow. While she had dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she spent nearly everyday with her great-grandchildren Olivia and Owen Fitch. She could be found sitting on the back porch while they went swimming or laughing with them while they danced in the living room. Their special bond will always keep her memory alive.

The birthday song in Polish has a line that translates to "I hope you live 100 years". To have a long, full life is the greatest wish for those we love. Although we will miss her we can all be comforted knowing that Tessie was blessed with 103 wonderful years of love, family, and friends.
