Rosemarie Campbell Obituary

Rosemarie DeMaio Campbell, 93, of Southbury, devoted wife for 62 years, of her beloved (late) Alexander Campbell, died peacefully at home on Sunday.  Born and raised in New Haven, daughter of Emilio and Anna (Petresemolo) DeMaio, she graduated from New Haven High School in 1942, where she was a member of the chorus, Italian club, bowling club, Tri-Y, and president of Phi Epsilon Alpha Sorority.  She attended Stone’s Business College.

Entrenched in New Haven’s Italian community, young Rosemarie bicycled to deliver soda from her family’s bottling company to area restaurants, including the famous Frank Pepe’s on Wooster Street. An accomplished dancer, Rosemarie and her husband traveled extensively, and lived in Connecticut, Florida, California, and Massachusetts, where Rosemarie was active in the Garden Club, Bridge Club, and was president of her homeowner’s association. While living in Hollywood FL, she aided the FBI in infiltrating a ring of jewel thieves who were renting a residence from her. In the same community, she and her husband owned a well-known drug store. She leaves a son, Dr. Alister Bruce Campbell, and wife Karen (Henkel) of New Milford CT; two grandsons, Jesse Austin Campbell and Ian Alexander Campbell; 3 step-grandchildren, Shannon, Bridget, and Rory Kennedy; 3 great-grandchildren, Leandra, Aedan, and Quinn; 3 nephews Edward, James, and Robert DeMaio.  Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward DeMaio and her faithful canine companion Elsa. Private services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery where she will join her husband.  Contributions may be made to Regional Hospice.
