Rosa M. (Huertsas) Lopes

Rosa Maria (Huertas) Lopes, age 95, of Danbury, CT died Friday, July 26, 2024 at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of Joseph F. Lopes (1926 – 2021). She is survived by her five children and four grandchildren.

She was born in Colombia, May 27, 1929, daughter of the late Isaac and Maria Huertas.  Rosa graduated from teacher’s college in Bogotà (Escuela Normal Superior de Colombia) with a specialization in Physical Education, and she worked as a teacher in Colombia for 35 years.  She moved to the United States in 1985, worked for Danbury Hospital for 10 years, and then for several years at the Hispanic Center of Greater Danbury.  She worked tirelessly for, and was very passionate in supporting her community, well into her late eighties.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
