Richard Polzin Obituary

Richard Henry Polzin, of Brookfield, Connecticut, was called home to his heavenly Father on September 14, 2023. He was the husband of Joan (Schwartz) Polzin.

He was born in West Seneca, New York, on August 5, 1928, the son of Richard E. Polzin and Betty (Burkard) Polzin.  His family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Northeast High School in 1946. He graduated from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois, and was called to be a teacher at Immanuel Lutheran School in Danbury, Connecticut, in 1951.

He always enjoyed tinkering and fixing anything that didn't run properly, so after retiring from teaching, he worked at Peerless Enterprises in New Fairfield, Connecticut, until well into his 80's.

He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Vivian (McElhattan) Polzin, and his step-daughter, Allyson Krieger.  He is survived by his wife Joan (Schwartz) Polzin, of Brookfield, CT, his brother Kurt Polzin, of Philadelphia, PA, and his children, Ruth Matern and her husband Rick, Christine Saffi and her husband Joseph, R. Stephen Polzin and his wife Kathy, and step-son Daniel Krieger and wife-to-be Maxie, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was blessed to be called "Poppy" by his 9 grandchildren and their spouses, as well as his 16 great-grandchildren.
