Obituary

Richard “Dick” William Nelson, age 88 of Danbury, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023 in Danbury, CT. He was the husband of the late Nancy (Benedict) Nelson.

Richard was born in Bethel on February 26, 1935 son of the late Gustave and Elsie (Wistrand) Nelson. He graduated from Bethel High, then served in the US Army from 1954 to 1958. He was stationed at Fort Dicks in NJ and did a tour in Okinawa.

Upon returning home he resided in New Fairfield, and worked at Stryker's Office Furniture and was a constable with the New Fairfield police department, until he opened Nelson's Office furniture on Crosby St in Danbury. After retiring from the office furniture business, he had a part time job at Hull Funeral Home. His hobbies were bowling, golfing and gardening. Richard’s biggest enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren.   

He is survived by his daughters: Debra and son in-law Thomas Vecchiarino and Patricia Morosky and partner Tim Smith, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter: Kelly Nelson.

The family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, CT Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, processing to Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield at 12:00 PM for a graveside service.
