Patricia Walberg Obituary

Patricia (Thayer) Walberg, age 88 of Brookfield, Connecticut, passed away on December 16, 2022 at Regional Hospice in Danbury, where she spent her final days surrounded by her adoring family. “Patty” is now reunited with her husband of 65 years, Elliott (John) Walberg, whom she missed dearly following his passing two years ago. Daughter of Ralph and Hazel Thayer, predeceased by siblings Natalie Clarkson, Eunice Russell, and Gordon Thayer, Pat was a 1951 graduate of Bethel High School, and a 1954 graduate of the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing. She remained lifelong friends with many of her classmates, who gathered together monthly and became like family to her.  An active member for many years of Newbury Congregational Church, she was a woman of quiet faith.

Exuding grace, wit, selflessness, and gratitude, Pat continually (especially in her last weeks) asked: “Do you know how lucky I am?” When, in fact, the lucky ones are those who were a part of her life. Her extended family, home, and her gardens were her passions. Never idle, she was constantly cooking, gardening, canning, and freezing her home-grown fruits and vegetables, or making her prize-winning jellies or pies. In their home of almost 60 years, there was always a reason to celebrate—birthdays, holidays, or simply a weekly Sunday dinner. Pat graciously found time to give of herself; there was always an extra place at the table, or a bed to spare. In later years, even as her vision faded, she continued to knit blankets, hats, and mittens to donate.

Predeceased by children Cynthia and Jon, and grandson Bryce, Patricia leaves children Lisa Ricketts (Rick), Barbara Cooper (Patrick), Douglas Walberg (Linda), Tanya Provost (Mike Monticello), cherished daughter-in-law Barbara Nanassy, and son-in-law Scott Gordon, grandchildren Melissa, Scott, Ben, Josh, Kristy, Jon, Eric, Kelsey, Sarah, Laura, Tyler, and Erin as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her.

A springtime graveside service will be held in Roxbury, Connecticut, the beloved town in which Patty and John began their lives together, and will now rest together.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Rd, Danbury CT 06810 or at regionalhospicect.org.
