Michael Joseph Shanley, age 17, died unexpectedly at home on May 11, 2015.  

He was born on April 2, 1998, at Danbury Hospital, son of Paul F. and Maria A. (Greco) Shanley, Sr. of Bethel CT.

Michael attended Circle of Friends pre-school, F.A. Berry School K-3, Johnson School for 4^th and 5^th grades, 6th – 8^th grades at Bethel Middle School and was a Junior at Bethel High School.

Michael started in Boy Scouting as a Tiger Cub, at 6 years old, and made all the ranks, Wolf, Bear, Webelos and Arrow of Light.  He also earned the Light of Christ religious award.  As a member of Bethel Troop 54, Mike earned many awards, participated in many parades, campouts, service projects and held numerous positions in the troop.  His current rank was Life Scout.  Some of his awards included year-round camper, Junior Scout Leader and he was able to attend the national Jamboree in 2010 at Ft. A.P. Hill in Virginia. He had earned 18 Merit badges and was just about to start his journey to Eagle, following in the footsteps of his older brothers.

Michael enjoyed playing sports, starting from T-ball when he was 6, through 4^th grade.  He then started playing AYF Football with the Bethel Bobcats from 5^th through 8^th grade.  There he made many friends that are still his friends today.  Once he started High School, he played Freshman football and also played JV Lacrosse in the spring of 2013. Michael was a member of the Bethel High School JROTC in his Freshman year of High School.

In his down time, Mike loved online gaming and numerous video games.  He enjoyed playing them with his friends near and far. He loved his 3 dogs. He also loved Quad riding at the family property in Upstate NY.  Mike was also an avid Patriots and Mets fan.  He also worked part time at Armando’s Restaurant, where he was like family.

Michael has many friends and will be sorely missed by all of them.

He is survived by his parents, his brothers; Paul Shanley, Jr. and his wife, Courtney; Steven Shanley and Lauren Bergh,  and Joseph Magri and his wife, Gina (Sestito) and their son, Jackson;  his sisters Marisa Shanley and Micaela Shanley. He was also survived by his Grandmother, Martha Greco, and was predeceased by his Grandparents, Hugo F. Greco, John Shanley, Sr. and Vivian (Gilbert) Shanley.  He leaves behind several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

The Shanley Family would like to thank all the first responders, Bethel Police Department and Bethel Fire Department.  They would also like to thank the Scotty fund and all the members of the community who have shown such love and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, 26 Dodgingtown Rd., Bethel, Saturday morning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at St. Mary Church, Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
