Mary Legnard Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Legnard, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 25th at the age of 81. Born in Woodside, NY, on May 17, 1943, to Ed and Mary Holub, Mary will be remembered for her boundless warmth, selfless love, and enduring kindness.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Bob, her cherished sons John (and his wife Ericka) and Jim (and his wife Danielle), as well as her adored grandchildren Evan, Kevin, Brian, and Katie. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Kevin, her daughter, Elizabeth, and her sister Anne Marie Morelli, all of whom she held close in her heart every day.

Mary attended Stamford Catholic High School and Katharine Gibbs in New York City. In 1967, she married the love of her life, Bob, and together they began their journey in Texas while Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army. In 1969, they settled in Bethel, CT, where Mary found immense joy in raising her family and creating a warm and loving home. She took great pride in watching her sons grow and later cherished the privilege of cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events and supporting them in all their endeavors.

A devoted daughter, Mary was blessed with the opportunity to lovingly care for her parents, who lived next door, treasuring the special time they shared together as a family.

A pillar of the Bethel community, Mary served as the Republican Registrar of Voters for over 33 years. Her welcoming presence was a constant in both the old and new town hall, where she was always ready with a smile and a helping hand. She was also a longtime member of St. Mary Church in Bethel and dedicated over 30 years to volunteering with the Bethel Chapter of Regional Hospice, embodying her commitment to service and care for others.

Mary’s greatest joy was her family and her close circle of lifelong friends. She was a steadfast source of love, strength, and compassion, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary Church in Bethel, CT, on Thursday, January 30th, at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Danbury Regional Hospice or The Scotty Fund in Mary’s memory.

Mary will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain a guiding light for all who knew and loved her.
