Obituary

Marie B. Miller, 97, a longtime resident of Bethel, CT died peacefully on November 11, 2022. She was born in Danbury, CT on October 14, 1925 to Dennis and Ann (Carton) Miller.

Marie graduated from Danbury High School in 1943 then received her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Boston University and master’s degree in school counseling from Fairfield University.

For 20 years she taught physical education and coached girls field hockey, basketball, softball, and tennis; first at Bennington High School in VT, then Danbury High School and Joel Barlow High School. For the next 18 years, she served as a guidance counselor at Broadview Junior High School. Throughout, Marie was dedicated to improving sports activities for girls. In 1996 she was honored by the Old Timer’s Athletic Association for her contribution to area sports, especially basketball and field hockey.

Marie was an avid walker, animal lover and UConn women’s basketball fan. She was an adventurous traveler and an active volunteer at the Dorothy Day Center, Meals-on-Wheels, Saint Mary's clothing bank, and as a Parish Council member and Eucharistic minister at St. Mary’s Church. Her greatest joys were her church, her family and her friends.

Marie is survived by her sister, Joan Troy of Manchester, CT, and several nieces and nephews. Meg and Claire Harmon of Augusta, GA, Andy and Diane Troy of Cataula, GA, Tom and Mary Ann Konishesky, and their children Sarah and Luke of Old Lyme, CT, and Steven and Holly Troy and their two sons Trevor and Ryan of Hebron, CT. She is pre-deceased by her dearest friend Catherine Gadarowski of Bethel, CT.

Marie’s family is especially grateful to Annabella Job for her compassionate care and devoted friendship over the last 3 years.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Mary's Church in Bethel in the spring. Funeral services will be provided by Bethel Funeral Home in Bethel, CT.
