Luis Gonzalez Obituary

Dr. Luis Gonzalez, age 72, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023. Formerly of Bethel, CT, Luis was the son of the late Luis and Lydia Gonzalez. He is survived by his sister Belgica O. Gonzalez.

To have known him would have been to love him. His kind eyes, warm smile, and calming voice made him absolutely lovable. Luis relished in connecting with others, animals and people alike. A unique gift he had was the ability to make someone feel so loved and special. Luis loved History, Politics, Medicine and Sports. He found entertainment in John Wayne movies and enjoyed artists like Frank Sinatra, as well as Juan Gabriel. He enjoyed watching fútbol on TV and cheering on Messi. If it wasn’t futbol, he was watching basketball. Watching Men’s Duke basketball, UConn women’s basketball, and the NBA were some of his favorite pastimes. Luis spent many hours on the sidelines of soccer fields, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts cheering on his children. He was very proud of all his children and their athletic achievements. He was the epitome of a team DAD who wanted what was best not for his daughters, but their teams. His love of sports continues on in all his grandkids. Along with sports, Academia was very important to Luis. A successful Hospital Administrator for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, he instilled in his family the importance of education. Above all, Luis taught us all to be kind. No matter where someone was from or what they did for a living, Luis respected everyone, and that is something that lives on in his children. The forever jokester, we will always remember his infectious laugh.

Survivors include: Children, Lidania Cibere and husband Stefan, Bethel, CT; Vera Gonzalez, Bethel, CT; Scarlet Gonzalez, Norwalk, CT; Leila Dewar, Yucaipa, CA and Luis Gonzalez Jr and his wife Lisa, Yucaipa, CA. “… And now the end is here

And so I face that final curtain

My friend I'll make it clear

I'll state my case, of which I'm certain

I've lived a life that's full

I traveled each and every highway

And more, much more

I did it, I did it my way…”

–Frank Sinatra
