Jerome M. Zeifman, age 84, of Newtown, CT died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Danbury Health Care, Danbury, CT. He is survived by his wife Marianne Zeifman.

He was born August 13, 1925 in Mineola, New York. He attended Harvard University, and received a law degree from New York University. He served as a naval communications officer during World War II.

Mr. Zeifman opened a private law practice in Nyack, New York prior to working for the Committee on the Judiciary of the United States House of Representatives. He served as counsel (1961-73) and general counsel (1973-74) to the Judiciary Committee. He was general counsel during the Watergate scandal, the threatened impeachment of Richard Nixon, and the confirmations of Gerald Ford and Nelson Rockefeller. He retired from the committee staff in 1974 to teach law at the University of Santa Clara.

Calling hours will be at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, CT Thursday, August 19 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Cremation was private.
