George Cantrell, Jr. Obituary

George Cantrell, Jr., 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday January 31, 2020 at his home in Murrells Inlet, SC. He was born on March 19, 1929 in Stamford, CT to the late George & Anna (Bates) Cantrell, Sr.

Along with his parents, George is reunited in death with his first wife, Joyce I. Jerman; second wife, Doris J. Jerman; stepdaughter, Karen Diaz; grandson, David Grandinetti; sisters, Helen Scheuering, Louise Rayner & Jean Lamb as well as his son in-law, David Grandinetti.

Following George’s graduation from Stamford High School in 1947, George went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, and return to CT, he was able to enjoy the finer things in life. George was able to pursue his passion for the automotive industry, as a technician; building his first car when he was only 15 years old. George continued his passion through building and racing his own car and becoming the recipient of many trophies, awards and accolades. In his working years, George was the proprietor of Federal Chevron in Danbury, CT for many years. Prior to his retirement, George earned the distinction of Supervisor at Pitney Bowes. Above all else, George loved his family with his whole heart and loved spending time with them. He was a true gentleman who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His stories, caring demeanor and gentle nature will be truly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Left to cherish George’s memory are his two sisters, Grace Davis of FL & Patty Davis of CT; his two daughters, Linda Grandinetti of SC & Patricia Cantrell of CT; three stepchildren, Jaqueline Machiguchi-Moro and her husband and George’s buddy, Robert, of SC, Deborah Zaccagnini of CT & Robert Jeans of FL; two grandchildren, Kevin Grandinetti of FL & Rebecca Lindsay of CT; ten step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-granddaughter; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins; a large loving extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

A graveside service in celebration of George’s life will be held at King Street Cemetery, Danbury, Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
