Emily Haas Antanaitis 88, formerly of Bethel, CT passed away peacefully in the presence of family on September 1, 2021, after a period of declining health. She was the widow of Robert J. Antanaitis.
Born on July 5, 1933, in Peoria, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Elizabeth Perkins Haas. Emily graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1951, and the University of Connecticut at Storrs in 1955 with a B.S. in physical education. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi. Before moving to Bethel in 1959, Emily was a teacher at Mansfield State Training School. After raising her daughters, she returned to work as a para-professional in the Learning Centers, and the Speech & Language Dept. of the Bethel Public Schools. She retired in 2005. She was a former member of the Bethel Historical Society; served on the Board of Directors of the Bethel V.N.A.; and was a Girl Scout Leader. Emily loved watching football and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers. She was also a dedicated fan of both UCONN Husky basketball teams.
Emily is survived by two daughters: Stephanie A. Nelson and her husband Bruce of Danbury CT, and Jennifer L. Antanaitis and her husband James W. Boyer, of Williamsburg, VA. Survivors also include her sister-in-law Margaret A. Blaine, and a nephew Brad Blaine, Jr., both of Pennsylvania.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday September 13, 2021, at 10:30 AM, at the First Congregational Church of Danbury. A Committal Service will follow at 11:45 AM at St. Mary Cemetery in Bethel.
All attendees will be required to wear a mask and remain socially distant. There are no calling hours.
