Edward L. “Pop” Layman, Jr., age 92, of Bethel, CT died Friday, February 23, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of the late Helen Mary (Densky) Layman.
He was born in Stamford, CT, August 29, 1925, son of the late Edward and Agnes (Keeley) Layman. He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a service station manager.
Pop was a man who was very shy, but he took presence in the room. He could hang with the sailors, but still charm the ladies. He was a man who loved going to work. He loved talking about the navy, playing numbers and was always ready for a casino trip and going out to dinner.
Ed is survived by his 2 sons: Donald E. Layman and his wife Patricia of Waterbury, CT, Robert L. Layman and his wife Wendy of Bethel, CT; 2 daughters: Diane Riccelli and her husband Joseph of Bethel, CT, Cathy A. Hoetjes and her husband Peter of Bethel, CT; 10 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Redding, CT, Thursday morning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.
The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT, Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
