Dr. Vito L Gesualdi

Dr. Vito L Gesualdi “Poppy” was born at home in New Canaan, CT September 7, 1929, to John Gesualdi and Mary Rainoni. He passed unexpectedly at home in Bethel, CT August 27, 2021.

Vito was an Optometrist. He first practiced Optometry during his military service in the army from 1955 to 1957. After his discharge from the army, he practiced briefly in New Canaan, CT. The long highpoint of his career was spent at his practice located in downtown Bethel, CT from 1960 until his retirement in 1992. In his many years in Bethel, he was an active member of the community, serving as the Lions Club President, a member of The Bethel Public Library Board, and a member of The Greater Danbury WMCA Board.

Vito was very active in the Arts; He performed in countless plays with major singing roles in various community theaters throughout Connecticut and sang in the St. Mary’s Church choir for many decades. He was also an accomplished artist having countless shows throughout Connecticut and winning numerous awards. He was a member of The Ridgefield Guild of Artists, SCAN Artists League of Newtown, and was on the Board of The Richter Art Association in Danbury for many years.

Vito was also a world traveler having circled the globe several times. China, Africa, Egypt, Europe, Thailand, Russia, Japan, and most of the United States are just some of the places he visited.

Vito was the proud father of David Gesualdi, Gail Furniss, and John Gesualdi. He was also the proud grandfather in order of age: Christopher Gesualdi, Richard Furniss, Marisa Gesualdi, Elizabeth Furniss-O’Connor, Benjamin Furniss, Samuel Furniss, Daisy Gesualdi, Andrew Gesualdi, and Daniel Gesualdi and was the great grandfather to Eleanor O’Connor.

A memorial Service will be held at The Church of St. Mary’s in Bethel, CT on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 10:00 am.
