Arthur Paulsen Obituary

Arthur L. Paulsen, 82, of Bethel, CT, passed away in the early morning of February 17, 2024, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his wife and immediate family. Artie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Susan Paulsen; his children, Matthew, of Cartegena, Colombia and Janice of Bethel, CT; his three grandchildren, Brittany (Reed) of McKinney, TX, Susannah, of Bethel, and Ryan of Bethel; and a great-granddaughter, Juliette, of McKinney, TX. He also leaves behind his canine companion, Audry Paulsen. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Harold.

Artie was born on August 29, 1941 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He worked for Union Carbide Corporation for 42 years until retirement. During that time he also served as an MP in the U.S. Army’s 1st Calvary division (Korea) from 1961-1963. Artie married Susan in 1965 and they had two children. They moved to Bethel, CT in 1973, where he also worked as a Special Officer for the Bethel Police Department for 33 years. Throughout his years in Bethel, Artie was a member of many organizations and committees, including the Jaycees and Brooklyn Before Bethel (BBB).

Through the years, Artie was involved in Boy Scouts, Indian Guides, Indian Princesses, coaching softball for his daughter, and then later, his granddaughter, and spent a lot of time volunteering in different capacities at the First Congregational Church of Bethel. He was a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and avidly followed the UCONN Huskies women’s basketball team for years. He had many hobbies, including collecting coins, breeding and raising fish, and caring for his beautiful waterfall and coy pond. But his biggest passion, by far, was to travel the world with his wife and, later, his entire family. Artie visited 69 countries and all seven continents throughout his travels.

Visiting hours will be at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel on Saturday, February 24 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. There will be a church service at the First Congregational Church of Bethel on Tuesday, February 27 at 4:00 pm. There will be a burial service at Elmwood Cemetery in the Spring, and that date will be announced in the future.
