Alice Mitchell Davenport, aged 94, passed away peacefully at home in Bethel, Connecticut, on Wednesday, May 29. Alice’s great loves were family, friends, fashion, and Frank (Sinatra). She was also a devout Catholic. Alice will be remembered for her originality, gift for friendship and conversation, and her generosity of spirit.
Alice was born in Richmond, Virginia, on December 11, 1929, the youngest of four children of Estelle Carlotta (Kersey) Robinson and Dr. Andrew Alexander Robinson. Her parents and beloved siblings, Miriam, Carlotta, and Andrew Jr., predecease her. The family moved to New York City in the late 1930s, where Alice attended Catholic grade and high school, as well as the College of Mt St Vincent. In 1952, she married the late John Thomas Davenport, with whom she bore a devoted daughter, Amy, and a loving son, John.
Her husband’s career advancements led to making several moves around the country before settling in Suffern NY. There she spent many years in the healthcare field, in particular as Director of Admissions at Ramapo Manor Nursing Home. In 1998, Alice moved to CT beginning a new career working for her son before retiring completely at the age of 91.
Alice’s children, three grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica), Emily, and Jack, and great-grandson, Andrew Jr., survive her and cherish her memory. Alice is also survived by four nephews and nieces, numerous friends, a dear cousin, Ruth Johnson, and special friend, Bill Oravez. For all those who will miss Alice, recall her favorite phrase: “Remember who loves you…”
A Catholic funeral mass will be held at 10am Thursday, June 13 at St Mary Church, 26 Dodgingtown Rd, Bethel, CT. Burial at Gate of Heaven, Hawthorne NY on June 14 will be private.
