Roger Ploof, 77, loving husband, best friend and soulmate, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, uncle and friend, died suddenly January 22, 2017.Roger was born February 13, 1939 in St Albans Vermont to Raymond and Simone (Pion) Ploof. He grew up working a farm with his family. He left school in the 10th grade to work on his grandfather’s farm in Fairfield, Vermont while his uncle served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He then worked for the railroad in St Albans for 2 years before moving to New Milford in 1958.He met his first wife, Donna (Lewis) Ploof and wed in 1961. Together they had four sons. Roger was predeceased by Donna in December 2007. He met his second wife, MaryAnne (Huntley) Ploof in 2008 and wed on his uncle’s farm in Fairfield Vermont September 11, 2012. Roger touched many lives and knew just about everyone in New Milford. In his early days, he worked at Bridge and Main Mobil Station and Morey’s IGA. He spent 20 years working at Scovill/Century Brass until the doors closed in 1985. He then worked for the New Milford School system at Schaghticoke School doing maintenance until retiring in 2005. He also worked part time at the New Milford Public Library from 1989 until his death. Roger was a volunteer with the Waterwitch Fire Department and enjoyed bowling with the Thursday night league at Brookfield Lanes, visiting with his family on his uncle’s farm in Vermont, traveling and camping. He was an active member of Family Campers and RVer’s Crackpot’s Chapter, fishing, raising chickens and spending time with his family and faithful dog, Patches. He is survived by his wife, MaryAnne (Huntley) Ploof, his sons Ronald J, Ploof and his wife Kristine, Gordon E. Ploof, Raymond C. Ploof and his wife Patricia, Kevin J. Ploof and his wife Kenna, his grandchildren Matthew Ploof and his fiancé Ashley Phillips, Jennifer Ploof and her partner Sara Begin, Ryan Ploof and Hunter Ploof, his great grandchildren Caleb and Connor Ploof, sisters Pauline Caron and husband Greg, Evelyn Callahan, he is predeceased by his brother Frederick Ploof. He is also survived by his uncle, Bert Pion of Vermont, sister-in-laws Peggy (Lewis) Haller and husband John, Kitty Braunsdorf, Millen Murray and husband Adam, Jeannette St Amand and husband Kevin, brother-in-law Stephen Huntlry and wife Maryellen, Ronald Huntley, Dennis Huntley and Robert Huntley Jr as well as many, many nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews and friends. The family is honoring Roger’s wishes to be cremated and no services, however the family will be holding a Celebration of Roger’s Life in April at Waterwitch Firehouse in New Milford.
