Roger S. Bennitt

Roger S. Bennitt, age 79, of Bethel, CT, died Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Glen Hill Convalescent Center, Danbury. He was the husband of Mary E. (Staib) Bennitt.

He was born March 30, 1938 in New Milford, CT, son of the late Joseph L. and Ethel (Loonan) Bennitt. Roger graduated from New Milford High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He later graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a B.S. in Accounting and worked at Contact Systems, Inc. for over 30 years as Controller, until retiring in 2007. He was an officer of the local chapters of Institute of Management Accountants and Human Resources Association.

Roger enjoyed running, and completed 3 marathons and many road races. He also enjoyed racquetball, sailboating, canoeing, camping, skiing and bike riding. For over 25 years, Roger cherished time spent at his Cape Cod home hosting family and friends. As a hobby, he self-published two financial books. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his two grandsons.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his daughters: Cindy (Bennitt) Tilbe (son-in-law Gary) of Woodbury, CT, Melanie Bennitt of Bethel, CT, and Karyn Bennitt of Stamford, CT; his brother: James Bennitt (Suzanne) of Merritt Island, FL; half-siblings: Donna Hofman of Umatilla, FL, Mary Schenzer (Gary) of New Milford, CT, Diane LaCoursiere of Clayton, NC, Ellen Bennitt of New Milford, CT (deceased), and Paul Bennitt of Bethel, CT; grandsons: Tyler Tilbe of Worcester, MA and Andrew Tilbe of Woodbury, CT; and two generations of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, Thursday morning at 11:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home, Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
