James Stephen Callaghan, age 73, of New Milford, CT died Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Judith (Raymond) Callaghan.
He was born in Williamsport, PA, October 14, 1944, son of the late John and Louise (Staib) Callaghan. Jim served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was a proud American who participated in Revolutionary Life and War reenactments. He was a cabinet maker and woodworker most of his life. He was a member of the New Milford CERT, the New Milford VFW Post #1672, the Ezra Woods Post #31 of the American Legion and was a parishioner and usher at St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by his sons: James S. Callaghan, MD and his wife Rocio Retana-Callaghan and John P. Callaghan; Sister: Marlene Neece; Grandaughters: Natalya Callaghan and Jackie Peters and Great Granddaughter: Zelda Renee Rex.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford, Monday morning at 10:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow the Mass at St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.
The family will receive friends at the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Rd., New Milford, CT, Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
