George “Rick” Parsons, age 73, of Bethel, CT died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Pamela (Dunn) Parsons.
Rick was born in Danbury, CT, June 26, 1945, son of the late Wilson F. and Georgiabelle E. (Sharra) Parsons. He was a graduate of Bethel High School’s Class of 1963 and served in the United States National Guard for six years. Rick worked as a welder for CL&P, which later became Northeast Utilities and then Yankee Gas. He retired from the gas distribution department after 47 years. Rick was an avid outdoorsman, bowhunter, sportsman, and lover of nature. More often than not he would come back from a hunt with only stories of the squirrels that had played around the base of his treestand or a unique flower he had spotted. Rick had been an active and beloved member of Fairfield County Fish and Game Protective Association since 1993. He was club champion five times, competing in fishing, archery, rifle, pistol, trap, skeet, and sporting clays. Rick also loved to read and always had a book from the Bethel Library on hand. He was proud to be a life-long blood donor. Rick spent the last nine years as devoted Pop Pop to his grandchildren, who love and will miss trips with him to JKs, his club, Bounce, and Ferris Creamery.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his two daughters: Samantha L. Parsons of Danbury, CT, Sayward L. Parsons of Sandy Hook, CT, her children with Matthew Kurjiaka: Lahja and Elowen Kurjiaka; and brother: Gregory W. Parsons of Citra, FL.
The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Cremation will be at the direction of the family.
