David LeRoy Coons, age 74 of New Milford, CT, died Saturday at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Linda (Stevens) Coons.

David was born in Sherman. CT, on July 20, 1943 a son of the late Leslie and Edith (Hathaway) Coons. He attended New Milford High School. David served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed for many years by Kimberly Clark Manufacturing before retiring in 1997. After retirement David worked for All Star Transportation in Washington, CT and New Milford. He was an avid sports fan, following the “real” New York teams; the Yankees, Knicks and Giants. David also enjoyed watching the UConn Women’s basketball team. He was widely known for his collection of Elvis memorabilia. 

In addition to his wife of 52 years, David is survived by two sons; David Coons and his longtime friend Stephen Petrello and William (Jennifer) Coons, four daughters; April (Paul) Moore, Karen (Cortney) Reed, Judy (Jose) Velazquez and Theresa (Gilbert) Coons-Cordero. Also surviving are19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three siblings Myron Coons of WI, Edith Colby of FL and Helene Tompkins of CT and several nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by a great grandchild, five sisters, Janet Austin, Beverly Tompkins, Beatrice Higgs, Doris Hollister and Sharon Coons and three brothers Leslie, Clayton and Raymond.

The funeral will be held at the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Rd., Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11:00. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery, New Milford.

The family will receive friends at the Colonial Funeral Home, Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00

Memorials may be made to the Diebold Family Cancer Center at New Milford Hospital, St Jude’s Children Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
