Cathleen C. (Sullivan) Mead

October 5, 1920 ~ March 27, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Cathleen (Sullivan) Mead, 96, of Bethel, proud matriarch of a loving family and the best mom ever, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Western Rehabilitation Care Center in Danbury.

Born October 5, 1920 in Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late Cornelius J. and Margaret Monaghan Sullivan. She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1937, after being double promoted from St. Mary’s grammar school. Cathleen raised five children in Greenwich and then Bethel, after moving there in 1967.

Cathleen was a volunteer at Danbury Hospital until 1979, when her husband passed away, at which time she took the position of director of the Bethel Senior Center and then some years later she became director of the Brookfield Community Center, retiring in 1998. She earned many awards for her service in these positions.

Cathleen loved the ocean, games of bridge, reading, and spending time with family. Her chocolate chip cookies and icebox cake were legendary. She gained strength from her Catholic faith and she was proud of her Irish heritage.

Cathleen was predeceased by her sisters Eileen Sullivan and Loretta Sullivan, her brothers Cornelius Sullivan and Maurice Sullivan, all of Greenwich, and her husband, Alden W. Mead. She is survived by her children: Jeffrey Mead of Portland, Priscilla (Mead) Morehouse and her husband Randy of Bethel, Alden Mead of North Haven, Pamela (Mead) Dzamko and her husband Thomas of Bethel, and Sheila (Mead) Cardillo and her husband Rocco of Danbury. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jonathan (Jamie) Morehouse and his wife Catherine, Alan R. Morehouse III and his wife Tammi, Jennifer (Mead) Adams and her husband George, Kevin Mead, Philip Mead, Aaron Dzamko and his wife Dalma, and Margaret Dzamko. Six great-grandchildren also survive Cathleen: Chase, Mackenzie, Shannon, Alan IV, Alexander, and Audrey.
