Nicky Stevenson Obituary

Nicky Maria Nicholls Stevenson, 77, died peacefully at home in Bethel, CT, on April 16th, 2024, after a long illness. She was born in London, England, on April 19th, 1946, to the late Phyllis and Christopher Nicholls. Nicky immigrated to America with her family in 1958 when she was 12 years old, attended Bethel Schools, and went on to attend Sacred Heart University. She was employed briefly at Branson Ultrasonics, where she met her future husband, Robert D Stevenson Jr. A devoted wife and mother, after raising her two daughters, she dedicated more than 35 years of her life as beloved “Miss Nicky,” Head Teacher at the Gingerbread Schoolhouse in Bethel, CT.

Those who knew Nicky well always spoke of her compassionate, sweet, and gentle demeanor. She was such a kind human, always reaching out to help others, and was a dedicated friend to so many in her lifetime.

A life-long lover of learning, Nicky was an avid reader and could often be found reading books on her beloved Kindle. In fact, Nicky read so many books that she earned herself numerous awards from Amazon, which she was very proud of. Miss Nicky adored animals of all kinds, especially the many house cats she had as pets throughout the years.  A proper English woman, she was not complete without a spot of tea multiple times throughout the day. Nicky also loved traveling to Cape Cod with her family and to Florida to visit her sister. Nicky was a prodigal violinist as a child and a very talented author and artist. She created amazing works of crochet and needlepoint. Nicky will be missed deeply by her family and friends, but the love she shared and showed us all will be with us always.

Nicky is survived by her two daughters, Sarah Kelsey and Melina (Dennis) Arcano, and three grandchildren, Jillian Kelsey, Mason Kelsey, and Jasper Kelsey. She is also survived by her sister Heather Rowlands, and many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is predeceased by her parents and the love of her life Bob “Steve” Stevenson.

A mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 95 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel. After the service, interment will be held in the church courtyard.

Nicky’s family would like to express their extreme gratitude to her doctors and caregivers, especially RVNA Hospice, for their expert care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nicky's name to RVNA Hospice. https://rvnahealth.org/
