Margaret Jean Gaylord

Margaret J. (Brown) Gaylord, 85, of Bethel, beloved wife of George Gaylord, passed away April 11, 2018 at Filosa for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Danbury.  She was born on October 17, 1932, daughter of the late Mary (Trester) Brown Sacrider and Edward Brown, Jr.  She was predeceased by her twin brother, Edward “Sonny” Brown and her stepfather, George Sacrider.

Marge, a lifelong Bethel resident, was a graduate of the Bethel High School Class of 1950 and a member of the Joseph W. Tarrant, Jr. Post 100 American Legion Auxiliary.  She loved to read, dance, play cards with her girlfriends and travel.  She raised five children while working full time and had a great sense of humor and sharp wit.  Even during her battle with Parkinson’s, the humor and wit remained. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, George; her five children: Cathy Schaniel and husband Gene of Bethel, Brenda Romano of Wolcott, George Gaylord and wife Katie of Lorena, TX, Martin Gaylord of Lakeland, FL and Peter Gaylord of Bethel; her six grandchildren: Erin Lee and husband Donald of  Bethel, Sherry Barry and husband Daniel of Wolcott, Sara McShane and husband Kevin of San Diego, CA, Kelly Piccirillo and husband Michael of Bethel, Matthew Amaral and wife Dawnielle of Danbury, and Martin Gaylord and wife Liz of Ocala, FL; and her twelve great- grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Ashby of Danbury, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Calling hours will be on Friday, April 20,2018 from 4 pm to 7pm at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT.  Burial in Elmwood Cemetery will be at the convenience of the Family.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Bethel Unit 100, 7 Elizabeth Street Bethel, CT
