Welcome to the memorial page for

Louis A. Godkin

January 15, 1925 ~ September 25, 2016 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Louis Asmus Godkin, age 91, of Bethel, CT, died Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Yale New Haven Hospital.  He was the husband of the late Joyce F. Godkin.  He was born on January 15, 1925 in Derby, CT, the son of Bertha and John Godkin of Seymour, CT.

Lou was a World War II veteran, having served as a bombardier in the US Army Air Corps.  After serving his country, he attended Mount Union College and later graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He worked for several companies as a developmental engineer before settling at Sprague Meter Company in Bridgeport, CT until his retirement in 1990.

He is survived by his two children, Ann Parisi and her husband Michael of Northford, CT and Paul Godkin and his wife Lisa of Harrisburg, NC; 3 grandchildren, Michael Parisi, Jr. and his wife Jillian of Rocky Hill, CT, Joseph Parisi of Northford, CT, and Bradford Godkin of Harrisburg, NC.; and many nieces and nephews.  Besides his wife of 56 years, Lou is predeceased by his brothers James Godkin and Warren Godkin, and sisters Elizabeth McBride and Alyce Boies.

Lou was a resident of Bethel, CT for 56 years, where he volunteered and remained active at the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Co. for nearly 50 years.  He was an avid sailor and fisherman, and he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson with his wife, vacationing with his family at Lake George, NY, and “potsying” around in his basement workshop.  There was almost nothing that he couldn’t fix, modify, or re-engineer to work better.

A grave-side military service will be held on October 16, 11am at Elmwood Cemetery, Route 302, Bethel. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lou’s memory to Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Co., 59 Stony Hill Rd., Bethel, CT 06801.
