Lonnie Moffett, age 95 of New Milford, CT formerly of Danbury, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Candlewood Valley Care Center, New Milford. He was the husband of the late Ruby Lee (Shepherd) Moffett. Born in Douglas, GA, August 3, 1921, Lonnie was the son of the late Will and Lucinda Nelson Moffett Carter.

In 1942, Lonnie enlisted in the army, honorably serving his country during WWII while stationed in Europe. He later moved to Danbury in 1945 and worked as a chef at the Ridgewood Country Club and the Altna-Craig Nursing Home in Ridgefield as its Executive Chef for over thirty-five years. Lonnie enjoyed golfing, fishing, baseball, and boxing; he was a fan of Joe Lewis, Mohammad Ali, and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Lonnie and Ruby shared 64 blessed years of marriage and three children, Elonza (Scooter), Billy, and Diane. Lonnie was a member of the Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church and a lifetime member of the Danbury Branch NAACP.

Lonnie is survived by his son Billy and his wife Kimberly of New Milford; one daughter-in-law, Vernese Moffett of Hampton, VA; one son-in-law, Leroy Ross of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters, one great-great-grand daughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The funeral will be held at Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church, Danbury, Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the church during the hour preceding the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
