Lisbeth Gibson Brooks, Redding, died August 6, 2016 after a long illness.

A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Parish, 184 Cross Highway, Redding, Connecticut on Friday, August 12th at 11am. The service will be immediately followed by a reception at The Redding Country Club, 109 Lonetown Road in Redding. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on October 6, 1931. She attended St. Anne’s Preparatory School in Lynchburg, Virginia. She graduated Magna Cum Laude/Phi Beta Kappa from Sweetbriar College with a degree in Government.

She made her debut at the Little Rock Country Club in 1950. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri she was selected as a BOTAR (Belle of the American Royal) in 1953.

She later worked as an executive at Allied Stores and a consultant in Kansas City.

Mrs. Brooks loved art and volunteered as a docent at the Nelson Gallery in Kansas City, the Gilcrease Museum, the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.

Upon moving to Houston, Texas, she became very active in local politics and was elected President of the Harris County Republican Party.

Mrs. Brooks moved to Redding in 1978. She was a member of Christ Church Parish for 38 years, and served on the altar guild and as secretary of the vestry. One of her greatest passions was preparing flowers for the church.

“Liz” also loved golf and greatly enjoyed playing Inter-Club competitions for the Redding Country Club. She traveled extensively throughout the U.S, United Kingdom and nearly every country in Europe as well as sailing in the Caribbean and Long Island Sound.

She was well-known for her elegance, grace, and thick Southern accent.

Mrs. Brooks took her party with her wherever she went, greeting everyone she met with a welcoming smile.

Lisbeth Brooks was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Bell Gibson of Little Rock, Arkansas. She is survived by her loving husband George, son Steve and daughter-in law Bess Brooks of Dallas, Texas; son-in-law Chris Shaw and daughter Mary of Rowayton, Connecticut; son-in-law Jason Gibeaut and daughter Elizabeth of Kings Beach, California; her six grandchildren, Neilley and Campbell Brooks, Sarah Shaw, Tilley, Ted and Ginny Gibeaut, all who knew her lovingly as “Bibby”. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Whitney Kerr of Kansas City, Missouri and her brother, Everett Bell Gibson, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee.
