Jane M. (Sandstrom) Hancock

July 24, 1928 ~ January 22, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Jane Marie (Sandstrom) Hancock, wife of the late D. Edward (Hank) Hancock Jr. died on January 22, 2017 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, ME.

She was born to Charles and Camilla Sandstrom in Danbury, CT on July 24, 1928. Jane was a bookkeeper for local stores and food services. She also worked as parish secretary for St. James Church in Danbury and then worked as coordinator of food services for the Danbury Board of Education. She was proud to be part of an organization that served thousands of students their breakfast and lunch every day. She was a member of St. James Church, taught Sunday School and was an active member of both St. Martha's Chapter and Couples Club.

In 1948, she married the love of her life, David Edward (Hank) Hancock and they both enjoyed traveling to Maine every summer. Jane and Hank fell in love with mid coast Maine and eventually spent summers in Pemaquid. Besides summers in Maine, the family has wonderful memories of trips taken together to Disney World and California, Canada and Alabama.
Jane was an excellent cook, an accomplished seamstress making many of her daughter's dance costumes and clothes, loved the beach, boating, going out to lunch, playing cards and spending time with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Jane was predeceased by her husband of 64 years; her sisters Elsa Ouzts and husband Ben and Elsie Huss; brother Carl and niece Marilyn Garofalo. Jane is survived by her daughter Nancy Jane Ochs and husband Robert of Pemaquid; granddaughter Vanessa Jane Mertzel and husband Jeff of Winthrop, ME; grandson RJ Ochs of Pemaquid, ME and great-grandchildren Drew and Addilyn Jane Mertzel; niece Sandra Sanchez and husband Peter of Foley, AL and several great nephews and nieces.

A Memorial Service for Jane take place on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 11AM at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury. Burial will follow at Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
