Dorothy M. Treadwell

Dorothy M. Russell Treadwell age 95 of Danbury passed away Tuesday July 18, 2017 at Glen Hill Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late George P. Treadwell.

Dorothy was born in Brewster, NY, a daughter of the late William W. and Madolin (Hultz) Russell. She was employed for many years as office manager of W.T. Grant Department Store and later worked for Colonial Ford. Dorothy was a contributing member of the Danbury United Methodist Church for decades, serving in almost every leadership capacity as well as in the choir and doing needle work with Helping Hands. She was the recipient of the AAster Moser Award and the Valiant Woman Award. As a dedicated mother, she was Girl Scout Leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop. She was active for many years in Danbury area and Connecticut State Bowling Leagues and Associations. Dorothy served on the organizational board and former president of the Greater Danbury Women’s Bowling Association, former president of the “600 Club” and founding member and president of the Women’s All Star Association, was elected to the state Hall of Fame in 1979 and was the first woman elected to the CWBA Hall for superior performance. She received an Old Timers Award and was elected to the Old Timers Hall. One of Dorothy’s greatest pleasure was traveling with her family on cruises, going to Maine, Pennsylvania, Florida and the Bahamas. The family would like to thank the staff at Glen Hill for taking such loving care of Dorothy during stay. She was truly happy there and love everyone.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Marjorie Underhill and her husband Frederick of Danbury: her son Richard Treadwell and his wife Anne of New Holland, PA: her grandchildren, Richard Jr, Kim, Marcy and Julie: great grandchildren, Lucy Jo, Lily, Connor, Riley, Alex, Makenna and Chris and several nieces and nephew. She is predeceased by three brothers: George, William and Clifford and a grandson Chris.

A Memorial service will be held in the Danbury United Methodist Church on Monday July 24, 2017 at 11:00 am.
