Alvin W. Lewis

Alvin W. Lewis, 95, of 13 Hawthorne Hill Rd, Newtown, CT, died peacefully at home in the company of this family on Saturday, May 12, 2012.

He was born February 26, 1917, in Scranton, PA, the son of T. Walter and Gladys Ketchum Lewis. He married Vida Arline Davies on December 5, 1942 in Elmhurst, NY. Alvin and Vida raised their family in Niantic, CT, where he worked at Sheffield Tube Company prior to retirement.

He is survived by two sons: Kenneth A. Lewis of Johns Island, SC, Ronald A. Lewis of Saunderstown, RI, one daughter, Valerie Lewis Tracey of Newtown, CT; four grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. He enjoyed family activities, Scouting, woodworking, model-making, crossword puzzles, and was an avid supporter of the UCONN basketball teams. A kind and gentle family man, he will be missed.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT, Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00. Private burial will take place at Union Cemetery, Niantic, CT.
