Gote L. Goransson

Gote Lennart Goransson, born October 30, 1923 in Skane, Sweden, Gote was the son of Erik and Helga. He moved to Bethel, CT in 1955 from Brooklyn NY.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Alice, son Kurt and wife Irene of Ephrata, PA, and daughter Janet Cosgrove and husband Matthew of Bethel, CT, grandchildren Heather Smith of San Antonio, TX, Erik Berube and Amanda Berube both of Bethel, CT and several great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Erik, as well as his grandchild Heidi Goransson.

Gote was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Army with Elko Company in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1946 and for many years worked with the Bethel Public School System on Veterans Day. He was a member of the American Legion Post #100, and a past member of the Shriners, Masons, Sons of Norway and the Bethel Fire Department. He was a great supporter of the work study programs in the local schools by employing numerous students in his machine shops.

He held numerous positions for the Town of Bethel, his favorite being Justice of the Peace. Gote will be remembered for his sense of humor, warm heart and kindness to everyone. He loved going to the casino and local tag sales.
